We continue with our twelth lecture through our devotion based on Thomas Watson’s book, The Art of Divine Contentment. Tonight’s lesson continues chapter 11, “Divine Motives to Contentment”. This long chapter will be covered for a number of weeks in parts. Tonight, we looked at Watson’s seventh motive: “Consider the evil of discontent”–first, its sordidness as unworthy of a Christin’s profession and relation; second, its sinfulness in its causes, concomitants, and consequences; and third, its sinful simplicity (incapable of appreciating the nuances and grandeur of God’s providence in all things because of its unwillingness to study, think, and learn).
