God prepares the Israelites to be protected from His Own wrath on the land by Himself through the purifying and marking of His people with the blood of the Passover Lamb; it is to be memorialized always, now in the Lord’s Supper for Christ is our Passover. See that God is passing through this world with His wrath. But God’s wrath will pass over you who have Him as your Passover. Jesus Christ is your passover Lamb. Behold Christ your Passover.
