Jesus says in the Second Beatitude that those who cry over their sins will be happy, because only they will be comforted with assurance.

How happy are you who are sad over sin, sinfulness, and your sins. The Holy Spirit comforts you who are sad over sinfulness with His forgiveness. Joy Cometh to the Mourning.
