When looking at its context, 2 Corinthians 5:17 teaches that Christians are new creatures in Christ who have new relations and thus new ways of relating with them: reconciliation.

As a real Christian in a personal relationship with God you really are a new person. As a real Christian, you really have new family relations with new people. As a real Christian, you really have a new way of relating with your new family. Real Christians Reconcile.
